Old Calvary Cemetery: New Yorkers Carved in Stone
Published in Paperback by Heritage Books (January, 1996)
Author: Rosemary Muscarella Ardolina
Average review score:

New York Irish genealogical researchers, rejoice!
Rosemary Muscarella Ardolina has done the NY Irish genealogical research community a tremendous service by undertaking such an enormous task. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of hours were spent at Old Calvary Cemetery carefully transcribing tombstone inscriptions mentioning a place of origin in Ireland -- need I explain the value of such a project to genealogists? She also includes inscriptions from stones which were in danger of soon becoming unreadable, as well as stones with intriguing historical and personal information.

Old Stone Fort
Published in Paperback by Texas State Historical Assn (December, 1981)
Author: Archie P. McDonald
Average review score:

Another Valuable Texana Source
Archie McDonald is one of my favorite historical research writers. His works are always easy flowing and well documented.
I prefer his books to the more current crop of writers who have a personal axe to grind. The Old Stone Fort played a part in the history of Fort Anahuac in a round-about way. In late July of 1832,Colonel Piedras had marched from Nacogdoches to the relief of Colonel Bradburn, who was under attack from the Anglo rebels in Anahuac. By the time he arrived, the garrison was ready to surrender. Returning home, Piedras feared another Anglo insurrection and ordered the civilians to turn in their firearms. This led to a confrontation and a running skirmish on the Angelina River. The "Old Stone Fort" was captured by the rabble and Piedras was forced to surrender several days later. The Battle of Nacogdoches was just one of the many early clashes against the Centralists.

Oliver Stone's America: "Dreaming the Myth Outward" (Film Studies)
Published in Hardcover by Westview Press (July, 1996)
Author: Susan MacKey-Kallis
Average review score:

Combines academic and non-academic perspectives
Ms. Mackey-Kallis apparently comes from an academic perspective, as she weaves a variety of interdisciplinary theories (mass communication theory, film studies, etc.) while still drawing from imagery that is understandable to non-academics. If you want to understand the theory behind the creativity of Oliver Stone, you'll want to read this book.

One tear is enough
Published in Unknown Binding by Joseph ()
Author: Paulene Stone
Average review score:

A unique look at a unique actor
Although this is not a comprehensive biography of Laurence Harvey, it is still a good insight into his unique talent and personality, written by his widow. The account of his death is particularly moving.

A wonderful voyage through life
Whatever your religious beliefs or non-beliefs, this book and its compansion from Spencer Press via Hawthorne Books, One Thousand Beautiful Things, are packed with wisdom, beauty and insights to carry anyone through life. Poetry, slices of life excerpts, quotations by category, and many other features make these books companions that can guide, inspirit and comfort. I have owned these books for many years and regard them as among the 6 most indispensable volumes I have been privileged to encounter and have with me. I hope someday they will be reissued, for they are timeless in appeal, knowledge and aid as one journeys through life - and they hold ideas for any afterlife to come.

Ordinary Words
Published in Paperback by Paris Pr (April, 2000)
Author: Ruth Stone
Average review score:

A Wonderful Choice!
Ruth Stone writes poems about the real, never striking a pose, but simply recording the world with integrity and a keen eye. Her poems "in their desire, praise emptiness, spirit." Whether her poems consider sitting in a McDonald's listening to the conversations of those around her, living through the passions of motherhood or expressing the deepest human losses, the reader begins to feel part of the experience. There are always two forces pulling against each other in this work. In relation to this book, I will quote two lines from her first poem: "'Here,' says the Devil, / 'Eat. It's Paradise.'"

The Orthopedist (Doctors in Action)
Published in School & Library Binding by Blackbirch Marketing (September, 1998)
Authors: Lee Jacobs, Gale Zucker, and Tanya Lee Stone
Average review score:

What a great book
In this pleasing and fun book, a child gets to see what an average day in the life of an orthopedist is like. The photographs are very clear and pertinent to the well written text. This would be a fine introduction to the interesting world of Orthopaedic Surgery. I would recommend this book for any parent or school library!

Painting on Rocks for Kids
Published in Paperback by North Light Books (June, 2002)
Authors: Lin Wellford and Maryjo McGraw
Average review score:

How shall we say... NOT JUST FOR KIDS!
This book is perfect for beginning painters of all ages! Painting on Rocks for Kids could be especially useful for teachers, Scout leaders, youth activity directors and anyone who enjoys helping children explore their own emerging creativity. If you think about it... Rock painting provides an inexpensive and exciting art activity that builds painting skills. If you wanted to... you could even sell them. (like I do!)

Something I like especially in this book are the lizards... they are not shown on the cover of the book but they are the cutest... I would have bought the book even if the only thing it taught you was the lizards... (the lizards really look like they are sitting on the rock! This book is worth several times what Amazon.com is charging. You will love it... be careful though... people have a bad habit of borrowing this book and forgeting to return it. YES, this book is that GOOD!
